Final SDSU Fall Classic II Brackets in PDF Format
Sophomore Emma Cioffi took home a pair of titles on the third and final day of the SDSU Fall Classic II at Aztec Tennis Center. Sunday marked the end of San Diego State's 2009 fall campaign.
Cioffi and Julia Wais continued their dominating play in their first weekend as partners and won their doubles bracket with their 8-5 decision over San Diego's Justine Perl and Maja Sujica. Sierra and Roxanne Ellison, however, came up short in their bid to win their bracket as the duo fell, 8-5, to Washington's Joyce Ardies and Samantha Smith.
In singles, Cioffi maintained her high level of play in her singles championship match against USD's Alexandra Demidova. The sophomore experienced no trouble against her city counterpart as she cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
Roxanne Ellison, despite dropping her first match of the tournament, regained her form in the matches to follow and found herself competing for the consolation title against Oklahoma's Katelyn Connelly. The sophomore lost the first set, 6-2, but rebounded nicely to win the next two, 6-2, 10-6, to pocket the victory.
The Aztecs will return to action in January 2010 when they open their dual-match season against UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton in season-opening doubleheader on Jan. 23.
