Men's Round 2 Results in PDF Format
After finishing second at the same event last season, the San Diego State men's golf team is making sure to not have a repeat performance in 2009, as the Aztecs widened their day one lead to 12 strokes through 36 holes Tuesday at the 2009 Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational in Kahuku, Hawaii.
Over at the par-72, 7,218-yard Arnold Palmer Course, Aztec men's golfer, sophomore Andrew Cooley (New Haw, England), overtook teammate Johan Carlsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) for the individual lead by posting a second-round 68, including his second eagle, to move to 6-under 138 for the tournament. Cooley holds a slim one-stroke lead over Santa Clara's Rick Lamb and is three strokes better than classmate Alex Kang (Oak Park, Calif.), who shot a 73. Carlsson dropped from first into a tie for fourth at 2-under 142, after his second-round 75.
SDSU true freshman Tom Berry (New Haw, England) made the largest jump on day two, moving from a tie for 22nd place into a tie for sixth place with his 2-under 70. Berry had three birdies through the first nine holes and ended the round on a high notes with an eagle on the par-5 18th hole to move to 1-under overall (143). Sophomore Tyler Morris (Encinitas, Calif.) also jumped up in the standings eight slots to 49th place with his 13-over 157, including a 76 on Tuesday.
As a team, the Aztec men, ranked 29th nationally, are at 12-under 564 through the 36 holes. Santa Clara is second best at even-par 576, while No. 4 Illinois and Long Beach State are tied for third at 3-over 579.
