Aztecs Continue West Coast Classic Action on Monday with Road Contest at Old WAC Rival Fresno State
San Diego State, 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in West Coast Classic action, will continue its tour of California with a road game at longtime foe Fresno State (2-1) on Monday night. The non-conference game is the second of four West Coast Classic outings for the Aztecs, who beat Santa Clara in the opener, 86-53, on Thursday night at Viejas Arena.
Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. PT at Save Mart Center and can be heard in Southern California on AM 600 KOGO with Ted Leitner providing the play-by-play.
SDSU, which has already played in Moraga, will start its two-game road swing at Fresno State before heading to Pacific and Stockton, Calif., for another West Coast Classic contest. The Aztecs and Bulldogs are meeting for the third straight season and will play their 102nd game against each other. Fresno State is, by far, San Diego State's most common opponent. UC Santa Barbara, another team on this year's schedule, ranks second with 89 all-time get-togethers with the Scarlet and Black.
Following the game, the Aztecs will travel the 127 miles it takes to get to Stockton to prepare for Wednesday's date with the Tigers before returning to San Diego for the Thanksgiving holiday. San Diego State will wrap up the West Coast Classic with a Saturday, Nov. 28, home game vs. Northern Arizona, which is slated for 3 p.m. PT.
Game Tidbits
* After dropping 10 straight decisions to the Bulldogs from 1996-2000, San Diego State has rebounded of late to win the last three meetings, including a pair the last two years.
* SDSU is in search of its fourth straight win the series. The last time the Aztecs had a winning streak of at least four in a row vs. Fresno State was back in the 1970s. San Diego State was victorious in eight straight beginning with the last meeting in 1971 to the first meeting in 1976 when both were members of the Western Athletic Conference.
* The Aztecs will make their second-ever appearance at Save Mart Center on Monday. In SDSU's first trip, it won the 2007 World Vision Classic by winning three games in three days, including an 89-72 win over Fresno State in the finale.
* San Diego State will look to continue its solid play during the month of November as the team has posted a record of 21-3 since the beginning of the 2006-07 season. Two of the losses came on the road (at California in 2007-08, at Saint Mary's in 2009-10) and the other was to 15th-ranked Arizona State last year at home.
