SAN DIEGO - San Diego State head volleyball coach Deitre Collins-Parker today announced the signing of five prep athletes who will join the Aztecs for the 2010 season. The group includes an outside hitter and middle blocker from Texas and an outside hitter from Washington along with a middle blocker out of Colorado and a setter from California.

The Texas duo consists of outside hitter Raegan Shelton (Randall HS, Amarillo) and middle blocker Oni Lattin (Bellaire HS, Houston).

Shelton, who played at Hereford High in Amarillo before transferring to Randall for her senior season, was a member of the state championship team as a junior and was named to the all-state tournament squad. Her other honors include first-team all-state recognition from the Texas Sports Writers Association (TXSWA), first-team all-3-4A District and Amarillo Globe News super second team accolades. Her Randall HS squad, which has won 41 consecutive matches, will play for the state title on Saturday (Nov. 21).

Lattin, whose vertical jump has been measured at 10-6, is ranked 25th nationally on prepvolleyball.com's list of Senior Aces. The 6-1 outside hitter was first-team all-district selection the past two seasons and an all-region selection in 2008 (2009 all-region honors have yet to be announced) while helping her Bellaire High School (Houston, Texas) team to a District 20-5A championship. Lattin also played for Club Kaboom in Houston and was heavily recruited by national powers Cal and Florida before signing with San Diego State. Her mother, Monica Lamb, was a standout basketball player at USC and played for the Houston Comets of the WNBA.

The Aztecs added a third outside hitter in 6-1 Summer Nash from Bishop Blanchet high School in Seattle, Wash. Nash recently led her prep team at the 3A state championship and was named all-tourney and MVP at the state tournament last weekend. In addition, she was a first-team all-area team honoree and was named the Seattle Times Athlete of the Week earlier this month. Nash also competed for the Bishop Blanchet track team winning a league title in the high jump and finishing second in the pole vault in 2007.

Middle blocker Erica Winkler will join the SDSU program from Highlands Ranch HS (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) where she was a four-year starter for the varsity squad and a 2009-10 Under Armour Girls' Senior High School All-America Watch List nominee. The 6-1 Winkler was a three-time all-state selection and was named to the all-Continental League first team on three occasions. She also earned all-state tourney recognition and was also a team MVP and captain. As a member of the Front Range club, Winkler was a two-time Rocky Mountain Region MVP and all-star.

San Diego State also added a setter in 5-10 Johnna Fouch from Redlands East Valley HS in Redlands, Calif. A four-year starter and team captain in high school, she was an all-Citrus Belt League selection each year as well. Fouch was also named to the all-area teams by both the Sun newspaper and the Riverside Press Enterprise, and was the latter's player of the year in 2007. A three-year all-CIF honoree, she led her prep squad to a 120-17 overall record and 54-2 league mark during her four-year career. Fouch's team was a finalist at the 2008 CIF state championships where she won all-tourney honors. Her team will compete in the final for a CIF title on Saturday (Nov. 21).

"We're very excited about the addition of these five players to add to our solid group of returnees," said Collin-Parker. "All of them are excellent athletes who could contribute to our success. They will challenge our returning players next fall and in the process make us a better team."

San Diego State will wrap up their 2009 home season on Saturday, Nov. 21) when they face Mountain West Conference rival Brigham Young at 1:00 p.m. in Peterson Gym. Prior to the match, the Aztecs will honor five players making their final home appearances for the Red and Black.
