Postgame Quotes - SDSU vs. TCU Football

SAN DIEGO STATE HEAD COACH BRADY HOKE

Opening Statement:
"That was a long day. I haven't been in one of those in a long time. They're a good football team. We got beat in every phase - coaching, playing, all phases. We've got a lot of growth that we have to do and a maturity as a team that we've got to keep moving forward. You've got to give them a lot of credit. At the same time, I know there are a lot of things that we didn't do well as a team that we've got to do better if we want to win next week."

On how he expects the team to respond at tomorrow's practice:
"I hope tomorrow they are ticked off. I hope when they watch the tape that they don't feel good about themselves, about how we played and about us as a team. Then on Monday, I hope they are ready to go play Wyoming."

On his overall impression of Ryan Lindley and Brandon Sullivan:
"I thought we ran the ball in there at times pretty well and I thought Brandon did a nice job running the ball. He really did a nice job of protecting the quarterback. (In terms of) Ryan, I thought we put some drives together, but then we'd do something ridiculous and hurt ourselves, whether it be a penalty, whether it be turning the ball over, or whether it be just not playing as well as we can to make a play. We'll know more when we watch the tape."

SAN DIEGO STATE PLAYERS

Quarterback Ryan Lindley

On his overall impressions of the game:
"We just didn't put our best foot forward, obviously. Give them credit, they're a good team. They've got some athletes, they've got some playmakers, but we just didn't play our game. We started slow and we need to fix that offensively. We just need to get it rolling."

On the team's slow start and whether it takes the offense out of rhythm:
"No, regardless of the score, end of game, beginning of the game, when we go out there for a drive we take it one play at a time. You've just got to move the chains. It doesn't matter if it's 14-nothing them or 21-nothing us; our job is to move the ball, keep the defense off the field, and score touchdowns. We didn't do that tonight."

Linebacker Jerry Milling

On if he was surprised of how well the TCU offense played:
"Not at all. Watching on film, they have a very good offense. They can do a lot of things well. They've got athletes at (the) receiver (position) and three running backs that can run the ball. I wasn't surprised; they're a good team on offense."

On TCU's running game:
"They beat us. I was seeing a team that physically, emotionally - they beat us. That's what it came down to; they just beat us period, in all aspects."

Wide Receiver DeMarco Sampson

On his fumble:
"I've just got to have better ball security. That's all it is, better ball security, take care of ball."

Offensive Lineman Peter Nelson

On the task of facing TCU defensive lineman Jerry Hughes:
"He's one of many great players on that team that we just played. You can tell by the way we just got beat. That's not how we played. TCU is a great team and we just got beat by them. We need to get better at preparing for games like this and winning."

On whether TCU gave the impression that it is a top-10 team:
"The way we just got handled, yeah. They took care of business. We didn't come in there mentally ready, prepared enough to play. We can play much better football than that. They stepped up to the task. They took care of their jobs and we didn't take care of ours, simple as that. If you talk about a championship football team, a team that executes their plays, they did that and we did not."

Running Back Brandon Sullivan

On why he was successful against TCU's defense:
"I would probably say preparation. Al Borges is a good offensive coordinator. Coach [Darrell] Funk is a good offensive line coach; he prepared the [offensive] line. We prepared the offense and we just tried to go out there and play the best offensive football we could."

TCU HEAD COACH GARY PATTERSON

On the game against the Aztecs:
"San Diego State is great, they play hard. We had trouble with them in the first half. We made some plays to get up and get going, but they're going to be someone to be reckoned with in the future in this conference. Right now, we're on a roll, especially offensively, and we were able to make some plays. Our guys are moving around and they're healthy and we have a junior quarterback who's played three years and he made some plays today."

On playing this San Diego State team under its new coaching compared staff to past years:
"I think they've gotten better. I've watched them and I think you're going to find out that they're going to do a great job recruiting. I told people this last week: I have watched them play well on the road. When you play on the road as well as they have, (the game) gets tougher. When they come to our place it has always been a fight. I think that we just have a football team this year that's on a roll, and that's not a reflection of them."

On how far his team will be able to advance this season:
"As you saw today, there have been upsets. You have to come to play. We haven't had success the past couple of years against Utah, so this is a big game for us, just like the rest of them. Fortunately for us, we get to play at home and we have a lot of people that will be at the ball game. We're going to give it our best shot."
