SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State cross country team makes the short drive across America's Finest City to compete in the Triton Classic Saturday on the campus of UC San Diego. The 6,000-meter women's race will begin at 9 a.m.

The course, which will start on the North Campus Fields and finish on the Triton Track, features varied terrain on grass, dirt trails and cement sidewalk.

Other teams scheduled to compete in the Triton Classic besides the Aztecs and host UCSD include UC Irvine, San Diego, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Bernardino, Cal State Bakersfield, Central Arizona, Grand Canyon and Western New Mexico.

Last year, SDSU finished third at the meet as four runners set then collegiate-best times, including current harriers Darien Buc (23:39.80) and Rachel Williams (23:42.60), who finished 23rd and 24th, respectively. Other current San Diego State athletes who competed in last year's meet include Michelle Martinez (45th, 24:32.20), Sara Beyers (46th, 24:32.40), Makenzie Mabry (68th, 25:15.10) and Melissa Bunn (88th, 26:08.30).

The Aztecs last raced on Sept. 26 at the competitive Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. SDSU was led by freshman Marianne Hogan, who completed the 6K course in a collegiate-best clocking of 23:03, good enough for 85th of 179 runners. Williams (129th, 23:50), freshman Jordan Davis (134th, 23:58), Martinez (161st, 24:59) and Beyers (162nd, 25:00) rounded out San Diego State's competitors.

Complete results from the meet will be posted on UCSD's athletic site (http://athletics.ucsd.edu/) or on the Flash Results website (http://www.flashresults.com/flashwest).
