SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's Achim Ceban advanced on the first day of qualifying at the 2009 D'Novo/ITA Men's All-American qualifying event in Tulsa, Okla.
Ceban, seeded 18th in the 128-player field, rallied to dispose of Edgar Rodriguez of USC Upstate, 0-6, 6-3, 6-2. He will face Oklahoma's Costin Pavel in the second round of the event tomorrow.
Ceban needs to win a total of three matches to earn a spot in the tournament's main draw. Qualifying for the main draw of the first major event of the collegiate tennis season continues tomorrow and concludes on Wednesday.
