San Diego State goalkeeper Aubree Southwick set the school's all-time career saves record and posted her fifth shutout of the season as SDSU defeated Seattle, 2-0, on Sunday at the Aztec Classic. The win extends San Diego State's unbeaten streak to six matches, its longest since 1999, and improves its record to 7-3-3, surpassing its 2008 win total.

Southwick, who came into the season with 159 career saves, recorded four on this day to up her total 206 on the year. The junior surpasses Lorena Snyder for No. 1 all-time in program history. Snyder, who played from 1990-93, finished her Aztec career with 204 stops. The Danville, Calif., native also has 18 career shutouts and needs just 6.5 more to take over the top spot in that category.

The Aztecs' final non-conference match of 2009 started off on a slow note as SDSU struggled to get anything going offensively. In the first 28 minutes, San Diego State attempted three shots to Seattle's one, but all four chances were either off the mark or easily saved.

The game changed shortly thereafter as Gretel Amman dribbled the ball down the left side of the field and passed it to Cat Walker near the left-hand corner of the box. With a defender on her back, Walker turned and found Tiffany Hurst, who slid in on the right side and deposited her shot from five yards out to give the Aztecs a 1-0 lead. Hurst's tally was her first of the season and her second of her career. Despite the goal, the match returned to its defensive theme and SDSU went into the locker room ahead by a goal.

In the second half, the pace picked up, but it did not translate in either team denting the scoreboard. The Aztecs' persistence paid off in the 85th minute as Sarah Halverson extended San Diego State's lead with her first career goal. The freshman was the recipient of a Hurst pass that came from the left side near the goal line and Halverson put her shot from eight yards out past Seattle goalkeeper Madison Goverde to provide the final margin.

San Diego State returns to the pitch on Thursday, Oct. 8, when it opens Mountain West Conference action and plays host to Brigham Young at SDSU Sports Deck. The match is set for a 4 p.m. PT start.
