SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior Juan Gomez split a pair of matches on Sunday at the 2009 D'Novo/ITA Men's All-American pre-qualifying event in Tulsa, Okla.
Gomez, the fourth-seed in the draw, defeated Jaden Philips of New Mexico, 6-4, 6-2 in the third round of the event before dropping a marathon match to Mississippi's Adrian Skogeng, 6-4, 1-6, 15-13, in the fourth round. The loss on Sunday afternoon to the draw's 28th-seed, kept Gomez from advancing to the qualifying draw of the event.
The pre-qualifying event began on Saturday with a 256-line bracket. The field was trimmed to 16, with those players joining the 128-player qualifying field.
San Diego State's Achim Ceban, seeded 18th in the draw, will begin playing in the All-American qualifying event on Monday against Edgar Rodriguez of USC Upstate. Match time is set for 11 a.m. CT.
