San Diego State Football vs. New Mexico - October 31, 2009

TEAM/SERIES NOTES
- San Diego State improves to 4-4, marking the first time the Aztecs have been .500 or better this late in the season since the Aztecs ended the 2003 campaign with a 6-6 record.

- Under Brady Hoke, SDSU has won four times in eight games (4-4). That is the same number of victories the Aztecs had in the 19 games prior to his arrival (4-15).

- San Diego State has won consecutive games for the first time since Nov. 3 and Nov. 10, 2007. The Aztecs went 23 games without winning consecutive games.

- San Diego State snaps an eight-game losing streak to New Mexico and a six-game losing streak at home to the Lobos. The Aztecs improved to 21-15 all-time against UNM.

- With four victories this season, San Diego State has matched or surpassed it win total of each of the last three seasons, four of the last five seasons and seven of the last nine campaigns.

- San Diego State has defeated Colorado State and New Mexico in the same season for the first time since 1993.

- With today's victory, SDSU has overcome double-digit deficits to win in consecutive games for the first time since 1993. The Aztecs trailed by 17 at Air Force on Sept. 18, and went on to win 38-31. The following week on Sept. 25, SDSU erased a 10-point deficit to beat Minnesota 48-17 at home.

- SDSU has overcome a fourth-quarter deficit in consecutive games to win for the first time since 1987, when the team rallied to beat Long Beach State on Oct. 24 (W, 52-42) and then defeated Hawai'i (W, 29-21) the next week. SDSU trailed by nine points against Long Beach State and was down by seven vs. the Rainbows in the fourth quarter.

- The Aztecs logged their third safety of the season, when linebacker Demetrius Barksdale tackled UNM punter Adam Miller in the endzone. SDSU also had a safety against Southern Utah and Air Force. Prior to this season, the Aztecs' last safety was at New Mexico in 2004.

THE LAST TIME
- Today San Diego State snapped an eight-game losing streak to New Mexico, dating back to Nov. 4, 2000. The Aztecs also claimed their first victory over the Lobos in San Diego since Nov. 4, 1995.

OFFENSIVE NOTES
-SDSU's fumble in the second quarter was the team's first turnover in its last 101 minutes and 11 seconds of action, dating back to the second quarter of the BYU game.

-With his second quarter touchdown to Alston Umuolo, Aztec signalcaller Ryan Lindley has thrown for at least one touchdown in each of the last 14 outings, dating back to the New Mexico game in 2008 (he missed the game prior vs. AFA due to injury).

-Alston Umuolo's 18-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter was his third consecutive catch for a touchdown. Umuolo had only one catch at Colorado State, a 60-yard TD, and his final of two receptions vs. BYU was a 6-yard TD catch. Umuolo has a TD in each of the last three outings and four for his career.

-Coming off a career game at CSU last week, senior wideout DeMarco Sampson caught his sixth and seventh touchdowns in the last three games tonight. Over the last three outings, Sampson has 27 catches for 390 yards and seven TDs. Sampson has three consecutive multi-TD games.

-With his 253 yards passing tonight, SDSU quarterback Ryan Lindley surpassed the 2,000-yard mark this season. He is the first Aztec to throw for over 2,000 yards in consecutive seasons since Billy Blanton in 1995 and 1996. Lindley also tossed three TDs tonight, giving him 12 in the last three contests, 20 on the season and 35 for his career.

DEFENSIVE NOTES
-Aztec defensive back Kwincy Edwards recorded a career-best in tackles tonight, beating his previous high of five stops on two occasions earlier this year. Brandon Davis matched his season and career high with nine stops to tie Edwards for the team lead tonight.

-Linebacker Andrew Preston logged his first sack of the season in the second quarter and the third of his career. Defensive linemen Jerome Long and B.J. Williams combined for the team's second sack in the fourth quarter. SDSU has 15 sacks this year, exceeding last year's 12-game total of 13.

OTHER NOTES
-Redshirt freshman Dominique Sandifer made his first career start at wide receiver this afternoon. Sandifer is one of nine Aztec true or redshirt freshmen to earn a start in 2009 (4 redshirts; 5 true freshmen). Sandifer tallied a career-best in receptions tonight, besting his previous high of three catches for 48 yards last week at Colorado State.

-The Aztecs scored a touchdown for the 34th straight game.

-SDSU punter Brian Stahovich kicked his 12th and 13th punts of 50 or more yards this season tonight against New Mexico. Stahovich's first four boots today all were inside the 20-yard line, as was his first one of the fourth quarter and his final one of the game (six on the night). He has had 10 kicks drop inside the 20 this season and 24 for his career.
