SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's Collegiate Novice 8+ boat took first place in its event at the annual Row for the Cure held on Mission Bay on Sunday, Oct. 25. The Aztecs finished first in a field of seven that also included entries from the University of San Diego and Orange Coast College.
The winning SDSU crew consisted of Jamie Parr (coxswain), Kalynn Craig (stroke), Kirsten Atkinson (seven), Regina Dowdy (six), Sara Bresse (five), Angela Strohbeck (four), Kaylee Nelson (three), Brittney Landers (two) and Natalie Marroquin (stroke).
"We're very pleased with the result, especially since that was a full walk-on boat," commented head coach Jen Zebroski. "It was a great race for them in that it was their first race ever as Aztecs and as rowers, and they ended up winning. They're going to work hard and build on this experience for the rest of the season."
The Aztecs return to action this weekend as they make a short trip north to compete in the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival in Newport, Calif., on Sunday, Nov. 1.
