SDSU Fall Classic I Day One Results
The San Diego State women's tennis team enjoyed a successful 2009-10 debut on Friday at the SDSU Fall Classic I at Aztec Tennis Center. The Scarlet and Black recorded eight victories against just one loss.
Doubles action got things started on The Mesa where 2009 all-Mountain West Conference doubles selection Julia Trunk and newcomer Julia Wais made quick work of San Diego's Justine Perl and Lise Marbach, 8-1. On the opposite end of the bracket, Roxanne and Sierra Ellison won by an indentical 8-1 margin as they dispatched Ryma Korab and Amira Massi of Cal State Northridge.
In the Singles Red draw, San Diego State went a perfect 3-0 as Trunk, Sierra Ellison and Emma Cioffi all scored victories. Trunk downed CSUN's Brooke Doane, 6-0, 6-1, as did Cioffi in her match with Korab. Ellison, meanwhile, posted a 7-5, 6-3 result over Marbach.
In the Gold bracket, Olivia Colman was extended to three sets in her match with Whitney Paluch of Cal State Northridge, but ultimately prevailed, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Naseem Eslami, competing for the first time as an Aztec, joined Colman on the winners side with her 6-0, 6-1 decision over Perl.
Wais made it a perfect 2-for-2 outing with her Black draw victory over Anna Yang of CSUN, 6-2, 6-4. Roxanne Ellison, however, did not share the same result as she was downed, 6-1, 6-4, by USD's Juliette Coupez.
Day two action resumes on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with doubles before giving way to singles competition.
