TEAM/SERIES NOTES
- SDSU falls to 7-26-1 in the all-time series with BYU and 5-11-1 in games played in San Diego. It is SDSU's first loss in its last four home games.
- SDSU's 14-7 advantage in the second quarter marked the Aztecs' first lead of at least seven points over a ranked team since SDSU also led by seven at No. 2 Ohio State on Sept. 6, 2003.
- SDSU did not commit a penalty in the entire first half for the second time this season. The Aztecs also turned the trick vs. Air Force, when they were called for only one penalty the entire game.
BROWN BULLETS
- After a one-game break, Aztec wide receiver Vincent Brown recorded his fifth 100-yard receiving game of the season and his sixth in his last seven outings dating back to the 2008 campaign. Brown entered the afternoon ranked third nationally and first in the MWC in receiving yards per game with a 126.2 average. Brown now has seven career 100-yard receiving outings, which is tied for 13th-most in school history.
- In six games this year, he has 140 or more yards receiving in three of them and over 139 yards in four outings. His receiving total tonight is a season-best, beating his previous high of 143 yards vs. Idaho. Brown did not, however, record a TD for the first time this season.
OFFENSIVE NOTES
- Aztecs junior tight end Alston Umuolo attempted his third career pass in the first quarter. The completion to freshman Preston King was the second of Umuolo's career. Umuolo went 1-for-2 through the air as a freshman in 2007, with the completion coming against Utah on Oct. 13 (35-yarder).
- SDSU junior running back Brandon Sullivan, junior tight end Alston Umuolo, senior wideout DeMarco Sampson all scored their first touchdowns of 2009. Sampson finished with two TDs on the afternoon for his first career multi-TD outing.
- After having only seven completions against New Mexico State, SDSU quarterback Ryan Lindley went 21-for-33 for 298 yards. In his 17 career outings, he has 11 games with at least 200 yards passing ... Lindley's three passing touchdowns are his most this season and tie as the second most in his career (also 3 vs. Cal Poly; high is 4 vs. Idaho in 2008) ... His efficiency rating of 163.43 was the second-highest of his career (best was 188.365 vs. Idaho in 2008)
DEFENSIVE NOTES
- SDSU opponents are 1-for-8 over the last four games on fourth-down conversions, including 1-for-3 today and 0-for-4 vs. NMSU.
- Senior Jerry Milling recorded his second game this season with double-figure tackles, ending up with a career-high 13. He is the only Aztec to finish with 10 or more stops in 2009, after ending up with 12 at Air Force. Milling now has four career games in double-figure tackles.
- Sophomore defensive back Brandon Davis posted a career high in tackles with nine to easily beat his previous best of three earlier this season.
OTHER NOTES
- Aztec true freshman Preston King made his first career start today at quarterback, taking the direct snap. King is the fifth true freshman to log a start for SDSU this season, joining running backs Walter Kazee and Anthony Miller, right guard Nik Embernate and cornerback Leon McFadden.
- SDSU senior Davion Mauldin made his first start of the season and the second of his career at cornerback ... Redshirt freshman Erik Quinones made his collegiate debut in the third quarter in place of the injured Alec Johnson at left guard.
- Mauldin's 31-yard kick off return in the first half was SDSU's longest of the season. It was the team's longest overall since Mauldin also had a 31-yard return against Wyoming a year ago.
- SDSU punter Brian Stahovich kicked his ninth and10th punts of 50 or more yards this season vs. BYU.
- Freshman Preston King made his first career catch at the end of the first quarter for 24 yards.
-The Aztecs scored a touchdown for the 32nd straight game.
