COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State's Rachel Williams (Mt. Hermon, Calif.) has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

A junior, Williams finished 15th of 122 runners at UC San Diego's Triton Cross Country Classic on Saturday. She completed the 6,000-meter course in 23 minutes, 9.2 seconds, a collegiate-best time and 33 seconds faster than last season's best of 23:42.6, also set on the same UCSD course. Williams paced the Aztecs to a seventh-place showing of 13 teams.

This season, Williams has been SDSU's top runner in two of its four races and runner-up in the other two. She was a NCAA regional qualifier in the 5K during the 2009 outdoor track and field season.

San Diego State will race split squads this weekend, sending some runners to the Northridge Invitational on Friday at 3 p.m. PT, and others to both the Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, Calif., and Indiana State Pre-Nationals Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday.
