FAIRFAX, Calif. - Heavy rain and winds forced the cancellation of Tuesday's final round of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at the par-71, 6,686-yard Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. Although the final round of the tournament will not be made up, the two rounds of golf played on Monday were enough to make the invitational an official NCAA event. San Diego State finished in sixth place and was led by junior Johan Carlsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), who ended up in second out of 75 golfers with a 9-under 133.

The 22nd-ranked Aztecs shot a 9-under 559 collectively at the Meadow Club, competing in a 15-school field that included six squads ranked in the top 50 in the nation. The Aztecs were only two strokes behind Fresno State and three strokes behind second-ranked Oregon State when the tournament was cut short due to the severe weather.

Host California won the event with a 23-under 545, beating second place Oregon by five strokes. The Bears' Stephen Hale finished as the top individual, edging Carlsson by just one stroke.

The SDSU men's golf squad returns to action Nov. 3, when it competes in the first round of the three-day Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational in Kahuku, Hawaii. The Aztecs finished second in last year's tournament.
