PALO ALTO, Calif. - The San Diego State cross country team had five runners set season-best times in the 6,000-meter race Saturday at the Stanford Invitational on the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif.
Freshman Marianne Hogan (Bedford, Quebec) led the way for the Aztecs for the second time in three races, posting a collegiate-best mark of 23 minutes, 3 seconds, good enough for 85th of 179 runners. Hogan had run 23:52 at the Fullerton Opener on Sept. 5.
Hogan was followed by senior Rachel Williams (Mt. Hermon, Calif.), who took 129th in 23:50, 3.5 seconds faster than her Fullerton Opener time (23:53.5). Freshman Jordan Davis (Santa Rosa, Calif.) was eight seconds and five places back of Williams in a new collegiate-best time of 23:58.
Juniors Michelle Martinez (Burbank, Calif.) and Sara Beyers (Danville, Calif.) took 161st and 162nd with times of 24:59 and 25:00, respectively.
As a team, SDSU finished 20th with a composite score of 569 points. Fifth-ranked and host Stanford won the 22-team meet with 24 points.
San Diego State will be back in action on Oct. 10 at UC San Diego's Triton Classic Invitational.
