Day 1 Results At William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in PDF Format
The San Diego State men's golf team is currently in second place through a round and a half Friday at the season-opening William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, N.M. Rain and lightning will force the 17-team field to finish the second round early Saturday morning before completing the tournament's final 18 holes.
The Aztecs are currently in second place at 9-under par with 22 combined holes left to play in the second round. SDSU is seven strokes behind leader UNLV, but seven strokes up on Pepperdine and Baylor, who are tied for third at 2-under, and is nine better than reigning NCAA champion Texas A&M, which is at even-par. The team was in fourth place after the first 18 holes with a 291 at the par-72, 7,591-yard University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course.
Individually, sophomore Andrew Cooley (New Haw, England) is tied for fourth place at 6-under par with nine holes remaining in the second round. Cooley fired a 4-under 68 to start the day with six birdies and has tallied four more in the first nine holes of the second round. Cooley is joined in the top 10 by SDSU junior Johan Carlsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), who is tied for 10th at 2-under through 31 holes.
Aztec sophomore Alex Kang (Oak Park, Calif.) posted a 3-over 75 to start the day, but bounced back in the afternoon, and is currently at 1-under with five birdies in 11 holes in the second round. Sophomore J.J. Spaun (San Dimas, Calif.) is tied for 21st place at 1-over par through 31 holes, while junior Matt Hoffenberg (Simi Valley, Calif.) is tied for 41st place at 3-over.
San Diego State will play the remainder of the second round and then begin the final 18 holes, starting at 7:30 a.m. MT on Saturday. Live stats are available via www.golfstat.com.
