The San Diego State women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 victory over San Jose State Friday night in San Jose, Calif. The Aztecs improved to 2-1 with the win, while the Spartans dropped to 0-2.

SDSU's goal came off the foot of redshirt junior Cat Walker (Folsom, Calif./St. Francis HS) at the 53:26 mark on a play set up by senior Jessica Gordon (Tujunga, Calif./Village Christian HS). Gordon rushed down the left side of the field and sent in a cross to a streaking Walker, who calmly tucked the ball into the far post for the game-winner.

The goal was one of 17 shots for San Diego State, which outshot San Jose State by a healthy 17-7 margin. The Aztecs have now outshot their opponents, 55-18, three games into the 2009 campaign.

Walker led the potent offensive attack with five attempts, including four on goal. Freshman Megan Jurado, playing in front of her hometown of San Jose, fired three shots, while Gordon's two attempts were both on net. Seven others had one shot apiece.

Junior Aubree Southwick (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley HS) made two saves to pick up her second shutout in three games. Nina Butera was called on to make seven saves for the Spartans.

SDSU also won the corner kick battle (6-2), while controlling possession for the majority of the match.

San Diego State will face its biggest test of the season thus far Sunday afternoon when they travel to Palo Alto, Calif., for a game against No. 4 Stanford at 1 p.m. PT.
