COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The San Diego State cross country team has been picked to finish in ninth place in the Mountain West Conference, the league announced Wednesday afternoon.
In the poll, which was voted on by the conference's nine coaches, the Aztecs garnered 11 points, just six behind TCU's 17. Brigham Young was picked to win the conference with 62 points, including a league-high six first-place votes. Defending league champion New Mexico racked up the other three first-place votes and finished with 59 points in second place. The Lobos were followed by Colorado State (48), Air Force and Utah (38), Wyoming (31), UNLV (20), the Horned Frogs (17) and SDSU (11).
San Diego State returns 13 runners from last year's ninth-place squad, including senior Rachel Williams. Williams was an NCAA West Regional qualifier in the 5,000-meters last spring.
The Aztec season kicks off Sept. 9 at the Fullerton Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. SDSU will host the 65th Annual Aztec Invitational on Sept. 19 at Balboa Park in downtown San Diego.
