Forty-eight of San Diego State athletics' best and brightest have been honored for their work in the classroom, as each was named to the 2009 Mountain West Conference Spring All-Academic team, the league office announced Tuesday.

The women's track and field team accounted for 16 of the 48 SDSU student-athletes, headlined by All-American Karoline Koehler (Erfurt, Germany), who was the runner-up at this year's NCAA meet in the long jump. Koehler has already been tabbed a first-team Academic All-American and the 2009 MWC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year.

The San Diego State softball, swimming and diving and women's tennis squads all had seven members each earn all-academic honors. That figure is even more impressive for the women's tennis team that includes only nine players and earned a berth to the NCAA championships in 2009.

Two Aztec freshmen, swimmer Elisabeth Krueger (Erlangen, Germany) and pole vaulter Alexandra Colvin (Monument, Colo.), boasted perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA's, while five others had above a 3.8.

To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at their school while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor to their team.
