IRVINE, Calif. - The San Diego State track and field team finished competition at the Steve Scott Invitational on Sunday in Irvine, Calif. The Aztec distance runners posted strong performances with six personal records at SDSU's final meet before the Mountain West Conference Championships.
Amy Brown put together one of her best meets of her Aztec career as she logged a personal record in both the 800 and 1,500 meters. In the 800, the freshman was SDSU's top runner with her time of 2:14.91 while coming in ninth place overall. Later in the day, Brown completed the 1,500 in 4:45.56, which was good for second among San Diego State athletes.
Teammates Leigh Rutherford and Jamie Ferguson also posted personal bests in the 800 with their times of 2:20.97 and 2:28.48, respectively. In the 1,500 meters, Darien Buc led the Scarlet and Black with her ninth-place time of 4:41.00 and was followed in order by Brown, Sara Beyers (4:57.21) and Andrea Norton (4:57.78), who all enjoyed lifetime-best efforts.
In the 100 hurdles, Briana Johnson continued to turn in regional qualifying times as she finished the race in 13.86, which was good for fourth place. Annimari Korte came in eighth after crossing the finish line in 14.05, while Domenique Manning finished first in her heat and 15th overall (15.35).
In the shot put, Leanne Taylor was solid again after placing second with a toss of 45-01.75. The junior was one of four Aztecs to finish in the top 10 and was followed by Laura Boggeln in sixth place (40-00.50), Maria Rodriguez in ninth (38-05.00) and Jeanette McConnell in 10th (38-04.25).
The Aztecs return to action on May 13 when they open competition at the MWC Championships in Laramie, Wyo.
