WOODLAND, Calif. - Three San Diego State water polo players have been named to the 2009 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation all-academic team, announced today by the league office. Senior Jenna Schuster was recognized for the third consecutive season, while classmate Anna Gonzales earned her second career academic honor. The pair was joined by sophomore Sarah Brady, who is a first-time honoree. The selections mark the ninth time in as many years the Aztecs have placed at least three student-athletes on the MPSF all-academic squad.

Brady earned her first academic all-league honor with a 3.35 grade point average in kinesiology. She appeared in all 34 games in 2009, finishing second on the team with 46 assists, which is the eighth-best single-season mark in SDSU history. She recorded 13 goals, 34 steals and seven ejections drawn.

Gonzales, meanwhile, was named to the MPSF all-academic team with a 3.29GPA in kinesiology. She was named to the all-MPSF second-team after she led the MPSF and SDSU squad with 92 goals this season. She finished her four-year career ranked second on SDSU's all-time charts with 273 career goals, while her 92 tallies in 2009 are second on the single-season charts. A solid all-around player at San Diego State, Gonzales ranks among the top 10 in school history in career assists, career steals and career ejections drawn.

Rounding out the group is Schuster, who compiled a 3.20 GPA in graphic design to earn her third all-academic honor. Schuster garnered all-MPSF honorable mention accolades after she ranked second on the squad with 65 goals this season. She concluded her SDSU career ranked third on SDSU's all-time charts with 256 career goals. Her 65 goals this season rank 10th on the SDSU single-season charts. After a stellar career on The Mesa, Schuster ranks among the top 10 in SDSU history in career assists, career steals and career ejections drawn.

The academic all-MPSF award is designed to recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of women's water polo student-athletes during the current season. Candidates must be a sophomore academically, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, have completed one full academic year at the member institution and have participated in at least half of the team's games.

San Diego State closed out its 2009 season finishing seventh at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship with a 12-11 win over Arizona State. The Aztecs compiled a 23-11 record in 2009.
