Linebacker Russell Allen has signed a free agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, free safety Corey Boudreaux is a Cleveland Brown and wide receiver Darren Mougey has signed a free agent deal with the Atlanta Falcons. The trio joins Lance Louis, who was selected by the Chicago Bears in the seventh round of the NFL draft, as Aztecs headed to the NFL.
Allen, a four-year letterwinner who logged 43 career starts while playing in every game the last four years, was SDSU's top tackler in 2007 and 2008. Allen ranks first in Aztec history in career assisted tackles (161) and second in career solo stops (214), while also ranking third in school history with 364 tackles. Allen was twice selected honorable mention all-MWC while also earning freshman All-America honorable mention honors by The Sporting News.
This past season, Allen was named SDSU's MVP. He played linebacker and defensive end for SDSU in 2008 and ended up being tied for 11th nationally in fumbles recovered, tied for 33rd nationally in tackles and ranked fourth in the MWC.
Boudreaux originally joined the squad as a receiver, but earned the starting nod at free safety in 2007 and 2008. In 2008, Boudreaux earned MWC honorable mention honors after leading the MWC in tackles per league game (11.2) and was second in overall contests (9.2). He also ranked 23rd nationally in tackles per outing (9.18).
The 2008 SDSU defensive MVP, Boudreaux was one of six former walk-ons to earn scholarships in the fall of 2007. He played in 24 contests for the Scarlet and Black.
In 2007, Mougey moved over to wide receiver from his original position of quarterback, enabling SDSU to take advantage of his size, speed and all-around athleticism. The team's No. 2 quarterback in 2005 and 2006, Mougey made his first career starts at quarterback in 2006. He started at the W receiver slot in all 10 games in which he played in 2008, ranking second on the team in receiving yards (437) and touchdowns (4) and third in catches (34). Mougey was also SDSU's third-leading receiver in 2007 with 32 catches for 368 yards and a pair of scores.
A 2008 team captain, Mougey played in 30 career games for the Aztecs, with 20 of those games at wide receiver.
