Freshman Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) tossed a complete game one-hit shutout to lead the San Diego State softball team to a 5-0 victory over UNLV Sunday afternoon at Las Vegas. The Aztecs improved to 24-13 and 2-0 in the Mountain West with the victory, their sixth straight and 13th of their last 15.
Micetich allowed just a fifth inning bloop single to Ashli Holland to improve to 12-4 with her 10th consecutive victory. She struck out seven and walked one, and lowered her ERA to a team-low 1.65.
Sophomore Jessica Camello (Temecula, Calif.) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while redshirt senior Dani Sidoti (Tucson, Ariz.) added two singles. Junior Brittany Knudsen (San Diego/Escondido HS) had a two-run double and scored a run, and senior All-American Erin Floros (San Diego/Mt. Carmel HS) had an RBI single.
SDSU broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the fifth and two more scores in the sixth. Knudsen's two-run double in the fifth scored redshirt junior Monica Alnes (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Camello, who each reached on a single. Knudsen later scored on Floros' single.
San Diego State scored each of its two runs in the seventh on a pair of Rebel (23-11, 0-2 MWC) errors as sophomore Traci Wolf (Lancaster, Calif.) and Camello made it 5-0, Aztecs.
SDSU will play host to UTEP in a single game at 6 p.m. Tuesday before hosting Colorado State (6 p.m. Friday) and New Mexico (6 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday) over the weekend.
