COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Despite the blizzard outside, the San Diego State women's tennis team stayed hot, defeating Colorado State, 6-1, on Saturday. The Aztecs downed the Rams and picked up a second win of their Mountain West Conference weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo.
In doubles action, the Ellison sisters were unable to get past Laura Neal and Lauren Strasburger, with Roxanne and Sierra falling in first doubles, 8-3. In second doubles, Greer Satherlie and Kirsten Stople defeated Emma Cioffi and Esther Cadua to clinch the doubles point for Colorado State, 8-6. No. 58 Holly Bagshaw and Julia Trunk were able to claim a victory in second doubles over Tori Arneson and Caitlin Fluegge, 8-5.
As singles action got underway, SDSU came out fighting. Cadua took down Arneson, 6-0, 6-1, in third singles as Bagshaw defeated Strasburger in first singles, 6-1, 6-2. In fourth singles, Cioffi downed Satherlie, 7-5, 6-4. Roxanne Ellison claimed the victory for San Diego State with her win over Stople in fifth singles, 6-1, 6-0. Trunk was able to get past Neal in second singles, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Olivia Colman completed the singles sweep for the Aztecs by defeating Fluegge in sixth singles, 6-4, 6-2.
SDSU will conclude its weekend of league competition by taking on host Air Force tomorrow, April 5, at 9 a.m. MT.
