SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team defeated UC Santa Barbara, 5-2, Saturday at the Fairbanks Ranch Tennis Club. The 37th-ranked Aztecs rebounded against the Gauchos after nearly upsetting No. 18 Pepperdine on Thursday.
In doubles action, Achim Ceban and Juan Gomez picked up SDSU's first win of the day by downing Alexander Konigsfeldt and Josh Finkelstein in first doubles, 8-5. In third doubles Bartosz Golas and Tim Schulz van Endert clinched the doubles point for San Diego State by defeating Taylor Chavez Goggin and Nick Caledonia, 8-3. UCSB's Scott Hohenstein and Evan Jurgensen outpaced Giovanni Vaglietti and Michael Beron in second doubles, 8-7 (6).
Ceban made an early mark for the Aztecs in singles action, as he took down Konigsfeldt in first singles, 6-4, 6-3. In third singles, Finkelstein proved too much for Vaglietti with the Aztec falling, 6-4, 6-1. Golas handled Hohenstein in second singles, 6-2, 6-3, as Devin Nerenberg outpaced Beron in sixth singles, 6-3, 6-0. Andre Feliz claimed the victory for SDSU by downing Chavez Goggin in fifth singles, 7-5, 6-2. Schulz van Endert had to fight for his win over Max Taylor in fourth singles, 6-7 (7), 6-1, (10-3).
San Diego State will resume Mountain West Conference action as the Aztecs face Brigham Young on April 9 at the Aztec Tennis Center.
