COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The San Diego State women's tennis team downed Wyoming Friday in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Aztecs were able to defeat the Cowgirls, 6-1, in the Mountain West Conference match.
In doubles action, Roxanne and Sierra Ellison took down Sarah Summerfield and Carly Van Hollen in first doubles, 9-8. In second doubles, Rebecca Berger and Jaime Nelson outpaced Kathryn Kitts and Esther Cadua, 9-8. SDSU took third doubles by default and clinched the doubles point with win.
In singles action, Cadua came out in front of Carolina Chaix in fourth singles, 6-2, 6-0. In third singles Emma Cioffi downed Van Hollen, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Holly Bagshaw picked up her first victory of the day by defeating Berger, 6-2, 6-4. Summerfield proved too much for Julia Trunk to handle in first singles with Trunk falling, 2-6, 6-4, (11-9). Due to Wyoming having only four indoor tennis courts, Olivia Colman was forced to wait for a match to finish before she could face her opponent. The delay did not stand in Colman's way as she defeated Nelson in fifth singles, 6-3, 6-4. The Aztecs took sixth singles by default.
San Diego State will next face Colorado State on April 4 at 1 p.m. MT in Colorado Springs.
