SAN DIEGO - With Friday night's (April 24) baseball game vs. TCU officially a sellout for grandstand seating, 200 standing room only tickets are now available for fans wanting to attend the contest. The game between the 16th-ranked Horned Frogs and No. 19 Aztecs is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. (PT) start at Tony Gwynn Stadium on the SDSU campus and will feature a start by Aztec All-American pitcher Stephen Strasburg.
Standing room tickets for the contest may be purchased over the phone (619-283-7378) or in person at the Aztec Ticket Office at Qualcomm Stadium Window E. They are not available on-line.
Ticket prices are $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for youths, seniors, military and faculty-staff. The standing room only tickets will allow fans accces to the picnic area down the right field line.
Strasburg enters the week with a record of 8-0 along with a 1.28 earned run average. His 121 strikeouts and average of 17.2 strikeouts per nine innings lead the nation while his ERA is second among Division I pitchers.
His career total of 301 K's is only four away from breaking the San Diego State record of 304 currently held by Bruce Billings, whose total is also the Mountain West Conference record. In addition, Strasburg is 13 away from bettering the league mark of 133 strikeouts in a season, a record he currently shares with former BYU hurler Nate Fernley.
San Diego State enters Friday's game with a record of 27-15 overall and 9-6 in league play. The Aztecs currently sit in fourth place, but only a game behind three teams tied for first. Among those three is TCU, whose overall record stands at 25-11 and 6-3 in the MWC.
