No. 46 Aztecs To Compete In MWC Championships
The San Diego State men's tennis team will begin competition at the Mountain West Conference Championships on April 23 against fourth-seeded BYU at 10 a.m. MT. The match between the fifth-seeded Aztecs and the Cougars will the first of three quarterfinal matches. If SDSU can get past BYU then San Diego State will take on top-seeded TCU on Friday, April 24, at 10 a.m. MT, in the first of two semifinal matches. The tournament championship match will be held on Saturday, April 25, at 2 p.m. MT.

Scouting The Cougars
No. 61 Brigham Young ended its regular season with a 4-3 loss to New Mexico in San Diego. The Cougars are 15-11 overall and 3-3 in MWC standings. Brad Pearce is in his sixth season as the Cougars head coach.

Series History vs. BYU
San Diego State has taken 21 of the 31 all-time match-ups between the two Mountain West schools. Earlier this season on April 9, the two schools met at the Aztec Tennis Center. In the April matchup, SDSU played without senior Bartosz Golas, shifting the entire lineup. The Aztecs ultimately fell to the Cougars, 5-2.

Looking For A MWC Comeback
SDSU is looking for success at the Mountain West Conference Championships as they enter as the fifth-seeded team. Last season, the Scarlet and Black entered the tournament as the sixth seed and advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to New Mexico, 4-0. In 2006 and 2007, the Aztecs were the top-seeded team and reached the championship match in 2006 but would ultimately fall to TCU, 4-1.

Aztecs In The Polls
San Diego State is currently ranked 46th in the nation, according to the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings released April 21 by the Intercollegiate Collegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Also making an appearance in the singles rankings are senior Bartosz Golas at No. 122 and junior Achim Ceban at No. 125.

Shining Sophomore
Aztec sophomore Tim Schulz van Endert is having a very impressive 2009 season and leads the team in victories. The Berlin, Germany, native has tallied an astounding 19 wins in singles and is 4-1 in MWC. Schulz van Endert has taken seven of his last eight singles outings.

Last Time Out With The Aztecs
San Diego State picked up a win over No. 43 New Mexico on April 21 in Albuquerque. The match was a battle between the two Mountain West schools as the deciding match came down to fourth singles where Aztec sophomore Giovanni Vaglietti would make a comeback to clinch the victory for SDSU, 4-3.

The Coaches
Gene Carswell is in his 11th season at San Diego State and sixth as head coach of the Scarlet and Black. In his six seasons at the helm, the Aztecs' mentor has compiled an overall record of 86-54 (.624), while guiding SDSU to three straight Mountain West Conference regular-season titles from 2005-2007. During that stretch, the native San Diegan led the Aztecs to a 17-0 league mark en route to earning three consecutive MWC coach of the year accolades. Prior to his present duties, Carswell was an Aztec assistant for five years from 1998-2003, earning a pair of ITA regional assistant coach of the year honors in 2001 and 2003. Former Aztec All-American Ryan Redondo is in his second season as SDSU's assistant coach. Redondo and doubles partner Oliver Maiberger advanced to the NCAA Finals in 2003 after posting an impressive 31-8 season record.
