MALIBU, Calif. - The San Diego State men's tennis team could not get past Pepperdine on Thursday afternoon in Malibu. The Aztecs fell to the Waves, 4-3.
In doubles action No. 10 Omar Altmann and Bassam Beidas proved too much for Giovanni Vaglietti and Achim Ceban, with the Aztecs falling in first singles, 8-4. In second doubles, Stuart Keplar and Alex Llompart defeated Juan Gomez and Luis Rattenhuber, 8-4, to clinch the doubles point for Pepperdine. Alex Moreno and Hugh Clarke completed the sweep for the Waves by downing Tim Schulz van Endert and Bartosz Golas in second doubles, 8-5.
In singles action, Schulz van Endert picked up a win for SDSU by taking down Clarke in fifth singles, 6-2, 6-1. In first singles, No. 32 Beidas defeated Ceban, 6-0, 7-5. Llompart downed Gomez, 6-3, 6-3, in third singles, while Vaglietti defeated Mahmoud Kamel in fourth singles, 6-1, 7-5. Golas was able to take No. 43 Altmann in second singles, 6-1, 0-6, 6-2, for San Diego State's second win on the day. Andre Feliz fell to Moreno in sixth singles, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
The Aztecs will next face UC Santa Barbara on April 4 at noon at the Fairbanks Ranch Tennis Club.
