LAS VEGAS - The San Diego State women's tennis team took its regular season finale over Utah, 5-2, in Las Vegas on Saturday. The Aztecs improve to 17-7 on the season and 6-2 in Mountain West Conference standings.
SDSU took first and second doubles to claim the doubles point. The 58th-ranked doubles team of Holly Bagshaw and Julia Trunk downed Erin Monson and Andrea Maughan in first doubles, 9-8. Adding a victory to their impressive freshman campaign, Roxanne and Sierra Ellison defeated Leigh Walsh and Evgenia Kryuchkova in second doubles, 8-6. In third doubles, Esther Cadua and Emma Cioffi could not get past Anastasia Putilina and Lisa Johnson, falling, 9-7.
San Diego State's three seniors put the finishing touches on the regular season by tallying wins in second, fourth and sixth singles. Bagshaw took down Putilina in straight sets in second doubles, 6-2, 6-3, as did Cadua over Walsh in fourth singles, 6-2, 6-0. Milana Yusupov became the team's third senior to win in straight sets after topping Karine Bourdages in sixth singles, 6-0, 6-4. Trunk contributed to the Aztec victory by defeating Monson in first singles, 6-3, 6-3. In third doubles, Cioffi was outpaced by Kryuchkova, 6-4, 6-1. Also falling was Olivia Colman in fifth singles, 6-3, 7-6.
SDSU will next travel to the Mountain West Conference Championships in Albuquerque beginning on April 22.
