BRYAN, Texas - The 20th-ranked San Diego State men's golf team endured a lengthy rain delay in Bryan, Texas, and at The Aggie Invitational on Saturday. As a result, the day, which was originally scheduled for 36 holes, was shortened to 18 and the tournament was subsequently trimmed to 36 holes. Despite the conditions, the Aztecs shot a 4-under 356 and currently is in third place in a field where nine of the 12 teams are ranked among the nation's top 45.

Matt Hoffenberg led SDSU after firing a 4-under 68 and finished the day in fourth place. The sophomore is just three shots behind co-leaders Bronson Burgoon of Texas A&M and Oklahoma State's Rickie Fowler and two shots behind Peter Uihlein of OSU, who sits in third place. Hoffenberg had six birdies on the day, three apiece on the front and back nine, but bogeys on No. 11 and 18 prevented him from entering the final round in a tie for third place.

Hoffenberg's classmate, Johan Carlsson, was the other Aztec shoot under par as he completed the first round with a 1-under 71. The sophomore shot a 1-under 35 on the front nine and followed it with an even round on the second nine to enter the clubhouse in a tie for 20th place.

One shot behind Carlsson are pair of Aztecs in Bryan Martin and J.J. Spaun after they each shot even par (72), which was good for a tie for 30th place. Ten spots below the even-par duo is Ryan Citarella, who logged a first-round score of 73 (+1), while Andrew Cooley posted a 77 (+5).

Sunday's final round is slated to start at its original time of 7:30 a.m. CT at Traditions Golf Club.
