KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Karoline Koehler won the long jump, qualified for the NCAA West Regionals and set a new school record on Saturday as San Diego State wrapped up competition at the Sea Ray Relays at Tom Black Track on the campus of the University of Tennessee.
Koehler won the long jump after covering a personal-record distance of 21 feet, 4.00 inches. Koehler, who owned the second-best effort in school history (20-4.50), broke the program record of 20-5.75 established by Lisa Domico in 1999. Teammate Kai Wheeler also participated in the event and finished second in her flight with a leap of 18.3.25. The junior came in 15th place overall.
Leanne Taylor enjoyed a solid performance as she competed in two events on the final day of the meet. The junior finished first in her flight and logged a season-best in the shot put with a mark of 45-5.00. In the discus throw, Taylor posted a top-10 effort while coming in eighth place after a toss of 150-6.
Jeanette McConnell joined Taylor in the discus and placed 11th with a performance of 144-5 and Laura Boggeln participated in the shot put and recorded a distance of 41-5.00. Fellow thrower Michele Dannhausen, meanwhile, finished in eighth in the javelin throw with a mark of 134-3.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Kristin Glen completed the race in 11:43.49 and the distance medley relay team of Darien Buc, Jessika Hornsby, Amy Brown and Rachel Williams logged a time of 12:06.42 while finishing in fifth place.
The Aztecs return to the track on Wednesday, April 15, as they begin the Mt. SAC Relays with the heptathlon in Azusa, Calif.
