SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team was able to defeat Utah, 6-1, on Saturday at the Aztec Tennis Center. The Aztecs were able to pick up a win in their last home match of the season, despite playing without senior Bartosz Golas.
In doubles action, Achim Ceban and Juan Gomez combined to defeat Wes Hancock and Phillip Eilers in first doubles, 8-3. In second doubles Tim Schulz van Endert and Jordan Colman clinched the doubles point for SDSU by downing Timmy Allin and John Taylor, 9-7. Benito Suriano and Stephen Jacobs got past Giovanni Vaglietti and Andre Feliz for the Utes only victory in third doubles, 8-6.
Feliz kept San Diego State's winning ways rolling by taking down Taylor in fourth singles, 6-4, 6-1. Vaglietti contributed to the effort by defeating Suriano in third singles, 6-3, 6-1. In first singles Ceban topped Hancock, 7-6 (4), 6-1 while Schulz van Endert downed Jason Smits in fifth singles, 6-0, 6-2. Gomez picked up a decision over Eilers in second singles, 6-4, 6-3. In sixth singles, Allin defeated Colman in a tough battle to score Utah's only point on the day, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).
With the victory the Aztecs improve to 13-10 overall and 1-2 in Mountain West standings. SDSU will next travel to Las Vegas to face UNLV on April 19 to make up their previously postponed conference match.
