Redshirt junior Monica Alnes (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) hit an inside the park solo home run and sophomore pitcher Samantha Beasley (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) struck out 10 in a two-hit shutout to lead the San Diego State softball team to a 2-0 victory over San Diego Wednesday night at USD Softball Complex. The Aztecs (22-13), who have now won four straight games, 11 of their last 13, 13 of their last 16 and 17 of their last 22 contests, improved to 47-2 all-time against the Toreros (9-22).

Alnes broke up a scoreless game in the top of the fifth inning when she laced a line drive to the right field. USD right fielder Taryn Keenan tried to make a diving play on the ball, but the ball skidded past her all the way to the right field wall. Alnes, who never stopped running on the play, was credited with her ninth homer of her career, which moved her into a tie for seventh in school history.

SDSU tacked on another run in the seventh as sophomore Jessica Camello (Temecula, Calif.) tripled to left-center field to lead off the frame. Camello, who earlier in the game broke an 0-for-26 slump with an infield single, scored two batters later on a single up the middle by junior Brittany Knudsen (San Diego, Calif./Escondido HS).

Camello's two hits led the Aztec offense, which outhit San Diego, 9-2, to improve to 17-0 on the season when outhitting its opponent. Redshirt senior Taryin Casillas (San Diego, Calif./Grossmont HS) also had two hits, while Knudsen and senior All-American Erin Floros (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel HS) each singled and drew a walk.

Beasley (11-9) allowed just two singles and two walks over seven innings. Her 10 strikeouts, her sixth double-digit strikeout game of the season, give her 161 for the year, the sixth most in a season in program history.

SDSU begins Mountain West Conference play with a pair of games this weekend at UNLV (6 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday).
