SDSU Softball Plays Host to Colorado State, New Mexico This Weekend
Winners of seven straight games, 14 of its last 16, 16 of its last 19, and 20 of its last 25, the San Diego State softball team returns to Mountain West Conference action this weekend when it plays host to Colorado State and New Mexico. The Aztecs (25-13, 2-0 MWC), who are receiving votes in both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball national polls, welcomes Colorado State for a solo game at 6 p.m. Friday before playing New Mexico at 6 p.m. Saturday and again at 1 p.m. Sunday.
SDSU has outscored its opponents, 23-3, over the seven-game winning streak, which began with a 4-2 victory over Texas Tech in the second game of a doubleheader on March 17.
Senior All-American Erin Floros (San Diego/Mt. Carmel HS) leads the San Diego State offense with a .328 batting average in 24 games (all starts). Floros, who missed 14 games earlier this season with a bout of appendicitis, is also among the team leaders in home runs (2), slugging percentage (.478), on-base percentage (.418) and fielding percentage (1.000). Junior Brittany Knudsen (San Diego/Mt. Carmel HS), who recently passed Janna Kovensky (2001-04) for first on the school's all-time walk list, is batting .287 with a team-best 17 RBI, 22 walks, 11 stolen bases, 31 hits (tied), 14 runs (tied) and five sacrifice bunts (tied). The 1-2 pitching punch of freshman Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) (13-4, 1.59 ERA, 123 IP) and sophomore Samantha Beasley (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) (12-9, 1.87 ERA, 142 IP) continue to improve in the circle for the Aztecs, tossing shutouts in 14 of the team's 25 victories.
SDSU leads the all-time series with the Rams (17-18, 1-1 MWC), 41-27. San Diego State has won the last six in the series and 13 of the past 15 dating back to the 2005 campaign. In fact, the Aztecs have won the last 11 games against CSU at home with their last loss on May 10, 2003.
SDSU is 49-28 all-time against the Lobos (10-25, 1-2 MWC) after winning all four meetings a year ago. In 2007, however, New Mexico won three of four against the Aztecs.
