SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State track and field team continues its outdoor season this Saturday at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in Claremont, Calif. The one-day meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. PT with the pole vault at Strehle Track on the campus of Pomona College.
The Aztecs are coming off a solid second-place effort at the Cal-Nevada Championships at UCLA's Drake Stadium last weekend. For San Diego State, it added three more athletes to its list of NCAA West Regional qualifiers in Nicole Stone, Michele Dannhausen and Jeanette McConnell.
Stone became the collegiate leader in the 400 with her 53.95 first-place performance in the preliminaries. In the final, the co-captain fell just short of winning the event with her mark of 53.66, which ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division I at the end of the day.
Danhausen, the team's other captain, qualified in the javelin throw with a personal-record toss of 143-9. Overall, she finished in fourth place.
Fellow field event teammate McConnell will also make her way to Eugene, Ore., for the regional meet after she came in second place with her personal-best discus throw of 155-3.
Next week, San Diego State travels to Tennessee for the Sea Ray Relays on April 10-11 in Knoxville and the Boston-Moon Invitational on April 11 in Nashville.
