BEAUMONT, Calif. - The San Diego State men's golf team sent five individuals from the SDSU "Black Team" to compete at the 54-hole Braveheart Classic this week. SDSU's redshirt freshman Colin Featherstone led all Aztecs at the event, finishing the tournament in a tie for 36th position.

Competing as individuals, redshirt freshman Tyler Morris and junior Michael Wynn were the bright spots over the final 18 holes as each improved their first-day standings on the individual leaderboard. Morris jumped 12 spots to finish in a tie for 87th as he fired a 2-over 74 during the final round. Wynn, meanwhile, improved seven spots on the leaderboard after carding a 4-over 76 over the final 18 holes.

Also competing for SDSU was junior Bryan Martin (t-57th) and sophomore Jerry Porras (t-63rd).

After day one, the Scarlet and Black had three individuals in the top 50. Along with Featherstone, Martin (t-46th) and Porras (t-50th) found themselves among the top 50 competitors. The highlight of the first day for the Aztecs came from Porras, who shot an even-par 72 over the first 18 holes.

San Diego State will return home to gear up to defend its 2008 tournament title at the 47th annual Fresno State Lexus Classic, March 9-10, in Fresno, Calif. The Aztecs, who are two-time defending tournament champions, look to make it three-in-a-row at the event, held at the Belmont Country Club.
