SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team were unable to top UNLV on Sunday at the Aztec Tennis Center. The Aztecs were defeated, 5-2, dropping their second conference match on the season.
In doubles action SDSU was able to take an early lead by claiming the doubles point with second and third doubles picking up victories. In first doubles Kristina Nedeltcheva and Katy Williams defeated Julia Trunk and Holly Bagshaw, 8-2. In second doubles, Roxanne and Sierra Ellison downed Alisa Razina and Anna Maskaljun, 8-4. Esther Cadua and Emma Cioffi added to the effort by taking Nikol Dimitrova and Rumyana Terzieva in third doubles, 8-5.
In singles action, only Roxanne Ellison was able to get a win, defeating Adrienn Hidvegi in fourth singles, 6-1, 6-4. Despite strong efforts from every Aztec on the courts, SDSU would eventually fall to UNLV with Williams being able to take Cadua in third singles, 6-3, 6-1. Bagshaw fought in a defeat to #123 Nedeltcheva, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6, in first singles. Cioffi fell in a tough battle to Dimitrova in second singles, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. In fifth singles Milana Yusupov fell to Terzieva, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, while Sierra Ellison fell to Razina, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4.
San Diego State will next face Wyoming as they travel to Colorado Springs on April 3.
