Six home games and a season-opening trip to UCLA highlight the first season of the Brady Hoke era, as the San Diego State football team's complete 2009 schedule was released Thursday afternoon. The Aztecs will play three of their first four games away from home and will complete the campaign with seven-straight Mountain West Conference contests.
Hoke's first game as the 17th head coach in school history will be Saturday, Sept. 5, as SDSU renews its rivalry with UCLA at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. The two sides will play for the first time since 2005 and the 22nd occasion overall.
The Aztecs' first home game is slated for Saturday, Sept. 12, when Southern Utah comes to Qualcomm Stadium for a 6:30 p.m. PT kick-off. SDSU will then hit the road for two straight games, beginning Sept. 19, at Idaho, and followed seven days later by the 2009 MWC opener at Air Force on Sept. 26 (11 a.m. PT). The Aztecs conclude non-conference action with its ninth-overall meeting with New Mexico State in San Diego on Oct. 3, at 5 p.m.
Following an off week, San Diego State will resume Mountain West Conference action with seven straight league contests. The Aztecs take on reigning conference champion BYU on Oct. 17 at home, followed by an Oct. 24 trip to Ft. Collins, Colo., for a 1 p.m. PT game against the host Colorado State Rams.
SDSU will have a season-long three-game homestand, starting with a Halloween contest against New Mexico at 4:30 p.m. PT. The Aztecs kick off the month of November against TCU on Nov. 7 (1 p.m.) and vs. Wyoming on Nov. 14 (7 p.m.).
After ending its 2008 season with two-straight home games, San Diego State will finish out 2009 with a pair of road contests at Utah (Nov. 21) and at UNLV (Nov. 28). The Aztecs have finished the regular season against the Rebels three previous times in the league's 10 seasons, including a 42-21 win a year ago.
All eight of SDSU's conference outings will be televised with one on CBS College Sports, two on VERSUS and five on The Mtn.
The Aztec football team opens spring drills on Wednesday, April 8, at the on-campus practice facility.
