ST. GEORGE, Utah - San Diego State freshman Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) finished in third place at 6-over 222, including a final round 74, to help the Aztec women's golf team to a fifth-place finish Wednesday at the BYU Dixie Classic in St. George, Utah. SDSU maintained its fifth-place position, posting its best 18 holes of the tournament with a 309, to end up at 68-over 932 at the par-72, 5,981-yard Entrada at Snow Canyon.
Enarsson has led the team in every tournament this season, recording three top-five individual performances, including two during the spring campaign. She moved up one spot on the leaderboard in St. George with 14 pars and a birdie on the sixth hole to claim third place by herself with a 6-over 222. Enarsson was only one stroke in back of Denver's Ellie Givens, who finished second, and six behind medalist Dawn Shockley.
Junior Heather Wilson (Chula Vista, Calif.) carded her low-round of the two-day event by five strokes, logging a solid 77 to move up from 49th to 38th place with a 25-over 241. Sophomore Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) was actually the Aztecs' second-best finisher, as she took 25th at 17-over 233, including a 4-over 76 on Wednesday.
Sophomore Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.) and senior Maki Kamimura (West Covina, Calif.) both struggled in the final 18 holes. Roberts dropped from 26th to 37th place with a final-day 82, while Kamimura fell from 36th to 51st with an 85.
Denver held on for the team title, despite having apparent day-one leader Stephanie Sherlock disqualified after the second round following an illegal drop. The Pioneers still won the event by 22 strokes over Colorado State with an 877.
San Diego State will be back in action next week for the 4th annual Lady Otter Spring Inviational in Seaside, Calif., March 30-31.
