MARINA DEL REY, Calif. - The San Diego State rowing team finished runner-up to Pac-10 power UCLA in all four races on March 14 at Bollona Creek in Marina del Rey, Calif.
The best race of the day may have been the novice eight race, where the Aztecs' 'A' boat, consisting of Emma Peck (cox), Julie Moyer (stroke), Kristin Ingram (seven), Erin Rozema (six), Ali Schroeder (five), Laurel Stephens (four), Leslie Martz (three), Darian Kimball (two) and Kanoe Steward (bow), was narrowly edged by the Bruins boat. SDSU was in the lead through the first 1,500 meters of the 2K course. However, UCLA made a late run over the final 500 meters to finish first in 6 minutes, 21.07 seconds to San Diego State's 6:22.63. The Aztec 'B' boat was third in 6:52.17.
In varsity eight action, the Bruins boat finished in 6:49.89, outdistancing SDSU (7:13.33) by 23.33 seconds.
The second varsity eight race was much closer, but UCLA still prevailed in 7:07.16. San Diego State, which had rowers Vanessa Jones (Cox), Kelsey Anderson (stroke), Stefanie Krach (seven), Melissa Carey (six), Leslie Sexton (five), Jessica Teora (four), Michelle Boyer (three), Alyson Boyd (two) and Kristin Guissanie (bow), was just 9.62 back in 7:16.78.
The Bruins also took the varsity four race with a time of 7:11.8, some 15.3 seconds ahead of the Aztecs' 7:11.8 clocking.
