HOUSTON - The San Diego State men's tennis team claimed their second win in as many days at the Rice Invitational, defeating Texas-Pan American, 4-0, on Saturday in Houston. On Friday afternoon the Aztecs took down Texas A&M Corpus Christi to take their first win of the Invitational.
SDSU got out to a quick start by taking the doubles point, beginning with Achim Ceban and Giovanni Vaglietti downing Aswin Vijayaragavan and Brett Bernstein, 8-5, in first doubles. In second doubles Juan Gomez and Bartosz Golas defeated Beau Bernstein and Nirvick Mohinta, 8-3, to clinch to doubles point. In third doubles, the match between Luis Rattenhuber and Jordan Colman against Andrew Irving and Marcus Dornauf was left unfinished.
In singles action San Diego State stayed on a winning roll with Golas downing Mohinta in second singles, 6-1, 6-2. Gomez picked up his second win of the day by taking Irving in straight sets in third singles, 6-1, 6-1. Andre Feliz claimed the win for the Aztecs by downing Beau Bernstein in fifth singles, 7-5, 6-1. The match in first singles between Ceban and Vijayaragavan was left unfinished as were fourth singles between Vaglietti and Brett Bernstein. Sixth singles was also left unfinished between Tim Schulz van Endert against Dornauf.
The Aztecs will finish out competition at the 51st Hampton Inn Galleria Rice Invitational tomorrow as they face tournament host Rice at noon CT.
