SAN DIEGO - San Diego State got another solid pitching performance from Bailey Micetich along with plenty of offensive support as it defeated Miami (Ohio), 9-0, in the opening game of the 2009 San Diego Classic II at the SDSU softball field Thursday evening.

With the five-inning win, the Aztecs improved to 14-11 on the year as they won for the fourth time in their last five outings. The RedHawks, meanwhile, saw a six-game win streak come to and end as they dropped to 10-7.

Micetich allowed only one hit over her fine innings of work while walking a pair and striking out eight as she improved to 8-4 and lowered her team-leading earned run average to 2.09. With the shutout, she has now not given up a run over her last 33 innings pitched.

After a scoreless first inning, the Aztecs got on the board in the second on a two-run home run by Dani Sidoti that was preceded by a walk to Taryin Casillas. Those runs came off Miami starter Jessica Simpson, the 2008 Ohio High Magazine state player of the year.

SDSU would go on to score three more times off Simpson two innings later with the big blow a two-out two-run double by Brittany Knudsen. Although Knudsen's hit came off reliever Meredith Linch, the runs were charged to the RedHawk starter as she would take the loss to fall to 7-5.

Although Linch got out of the inning without further damage, she would be touched up for four runs in the next frame as the Aztecs used five hits and a hit batter to make it a 9-0 score line. Sidoti came up big again with a two-run double to right while Traci Wolf and Knudsen also had RBI singles.

Sidoti and Knudsen finished the night with two hits apiece and recorded four and three RBI respectively. Tonye McCorkle added a pair of singles as well and scored twice.

San Diego continues play in the tournament on Friday with contests against Oklahoma State at 4:00 p.m. (PT) and Northern Colorado at 7:00 p.m.
