COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State freshman Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif./Pioneer HS) has been named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. The award is the first weekly honor for the righthander and the third consecutive by an Aztec this season.
Micetich, who joins Samantha Beasley (Pitcher of the Week, Feb. 24) and Jessica Camello (Player of the Week, March 3) as league weekly winners, went 3-0 last weekend with a 0.00 ERA as SDSU went 3-2 at the Stanford Louisville Slugger Classic. She struck out 24 with just three walks for an impressive 8-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 19 innings. Micetich, who has not allowed a run in 28 innings, had two solo shutouts and pitched five innings in combined shutout with Beasley, while limiting her opponents to a .138 batting average. Seven of the nine hits she allowed were singles and just two (both doubles) went for extra bases.
On Friday, Micetich tossed a complete game three-hit shutout in San Diego State's 5-0 victory over Vermont. She struck out 10 Catamounts and allowed two walks. Against UC Davis on Saturday, Micetich struck out nine and walked one in a complete game two-hit shutout in the Aztecs' 1-0 triumph. She wrapped up the weekend with five innings of scoreless ball in SDSU's 1-0 win over Penn State. For the game, Micetich stuck out five and gave up four hits and no walks.
On the season, Micetich is 7-4 with at team-low 2.09 ERA over 77 innings. She has 82 strikeouts against 17 walks and has five shutouts (three solo).
San Diego State will begin a season-long nine-game homestand today (Wednesday) when they take on South Dakota State at 6 p.m.
