The San Diego State Softball team banged out 11 hits and took advantage of six South Dakota State errors in a 7-0 victory Wednesday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. It was the fifth shutout in the last seven games for the Aztecs (13-11).

After a scoreless first inning, SDSU scored five runs in the bottom of the second, all which were unearned against the Jackrabbit (3-18) pitcher Jenna Marston. Senior Tonye McCorkle (Santa Ana Heights, Calif.), who reached on a walk, scored the game's first run on a throwing error by the South Dakota State third baseman, which allowed redshirt junior Sydney Fleming (Oakland, Calif.) to get all the way to third base. It appeared Fleming would stay at third after the next two San Diego State batters got out (pop-up and groundout).

The Aztecs, however, exploded for four two-out runs, beginning with an RBI single by junior Brittany Knudsen (San Diego, Calif./Escondido HS). Knudsen would later score on a throwing error by the Jackrabbit catcher and freshman Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego, Calif./Morse HS) followed on an RBI single by senior All-American Erin Floros (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel HS). Floros, who had missed the past 14 games with a bout of appendicitis, rounded out the scoring for SDSU in the second when she scored on the fourth South Dakota State miscue of the inning.

San Diego State used its speed to create two more scores in the sixth. Reifschneider led off the inning with her second infield single of the game and junior Stefanie Quichocho-Rosario (San Diego, Calif./Morse HS) followed with another infield hit. Both players moved up a base after a late throwing error on the Quichocho-Rosario hit. One batter later, freshman Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.) plated Reifschneider with an RBI groundout and McCorkle made it 7-0 on a deep triple to center field, her Mountain West Conference-leading third of the season.

Reifschneider had two hits, two runs and drew a walk to pace the Aztec offense, while Knudsen added two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Seven others had a hit for SDSU, which saw 16 players make an appearance in the game.

Sophomore Samantha Beasley (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) struck out a career-high 12 batters in the complete game shutout. She gave up four walks and two hits over seven innings.

San Diego State kicks off the San Diego Classic II on Thursday when it plays host to Miami (OH) at 7 p.m.
