SAN DIEGO - Eight members of the San Diego State women's swimming and diving team have been named to the 2009 all-Mountain West Conference team based on their performances at the recently completed MWC Swimming & Diving Championships held in Oklahoma City this past weekend.

To be placed on the all-conference team, an individual must place in the top eight in the finals of their event. The complete list of Aztecs all-MWC swimmers and divers along with their event finishes is as follows:

She became only the second SDSU swimmer to win a final at the championship meet when she finished first in the 200 breast on Saturday.

Junior Elena Karpeeva also set a pair of new SDSU standards, swimming Aztec record times in both the 100 and 200 backstroke. Other school records were set by Alex Barstad in platform diving, Elisabeth Krueger in the 200 butterfly, Shaida Solimani in the 100 backstroke and Brooke Vessey in the 100 butterfly.

In addition to those eight individual marks, the Aztecs also set new school records in each of the five relay events during the championship meet for a total of 13 over the four-day meet. SDSU's sixth-place finish matched its best ever going back to the 2000 and 2001 championships when they captured the same spot in the final meet standings.

Both Engzell in the 200 breast (2:14.06) and Karpeeva in the 200 back (1:57.76) recorded times that made them provisional qualifiers for the NCAA Championships. Diver Alex Barstad had previously qualified for the Zone E Regionals which will be held in Oklahoma City March 12-15.
