The No. 25 San Diego State softball team fell to Cal Poly, 7-3, Sunday afternoon in its first game of the final day at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament. The Aztecs (2-1), who rallied yesterday to defeat the Mustangs, 4-3, will play fourth-ranked and tournament host UCLA at 4:30 p.m.

After digging itself into an early 5-0 hole, SDSU came back with three runs in the top of the sixth inning, all off the bat of senior All-American Erin Floros (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel HS). Junior Brittany Knudsen (San Diego, Calif./Escondido HS) got the ball rolling with an infield slap single. Senior Tonye McCorkle (Santa Ana Heights, Calif.) followed with a single of her own to left field. Floros then drilled a 1-1 pitch well over the left-center field wall for her first home run of the season.

Cal Poly (2-1), however, got all of the runs it would need in the third off SDSU freshman pitcher Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.). The first came on an RBI single by Stephanie Tam, while the other three came off a three-run homer by Melissa Pura.

The Mustangs added another score two innings later when a Cristen Lee single moved Jessica Rogers to third base and eventually home on a SDSU fielding error.

Cal Poly then tacked on two more runs in the bottom half of the sixth, after San Diego State's brief rally, thanks to a two-run double by pinch-hitter Sara Kryza.

Micetich (1-1) took the loss for the Aztecs after allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits over five innings. She struck out a career-high four batters without issuing a walk. Sophomore Samantha Beasley (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) gave up two runs on three hits and a walk over one inning of relief.

Sophomore transfer Traci Wolf (Lancaster, Calif.) and junior Katy Erikson (Tustin, Calif.) each picked up their first hits of the season, while redshirt senior Taryin Casillas (San Diego, Calif./Grossmont HS) also singled for SDSU.
