LOS ANGELES - San Diego State men's tennis was defeated, 5-2, at UCLA Wednesday afternoon. Despite taking the doubles point the Aztecs couldn't overcome the Bruins in singles action to fall for the third time this season, making their record 1-3. SDSU's doubles team of Achim Ceban and Giovanni Vaglietti defeated Haythem Abid and Amit Inbar of UCLA, 8-5, in first doubles. Aztec veterans Tim Schulz van Endert and Juan Gomez were unable to hang on and lost to Matt Brooklyn and Michael Look, 8-6, in second doubles. In third doubles action, Andre Feliz and Bartosz Golas were able to take down No. 78 Nick Meister and partner Holden Seguso, 8-6, to clinch the doubles point for the Scarlet and Black. As singles action got underway Golas was the first to finish for the Aztecs, falling, 6-0, 6-2, to Abid in first singles. Feliz and Vaglietti were the next two to fall to the Bruins, in sixth and fourth singles respectively. Ceban of SDSU was able to defeat Harel Srugo of UCLA in a tough fight, 6-3, 7-6(6), in third singles. Schulz van Endert fell to Meister 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, in fifth singles. In a hard fought battle Juan Gomez was unable to hang on after rallying back from a set down, ultimately falling to 67th-ranked Matt Brooklyn, 6-3, 6-7(4), 7-6(4), in second singles. The Aztecs will return to San Diego for the doubleheader home opener on Feb. 6, beginning with USC at noon PT.
