SDSU Game Notes vs. TCU in PDF Format
Feb. 27, 2009
The San Diego State women's basketball team will look to complete a perfect regular season at home this Saturday, as the Aztecs take on TCU at 2 p.m. PT at Cox Arena. The contest will be a battle between two schools separated by just a half game in the Mountain West Conference standings, as league play heads into its final seven days.
With a victory Wednesday at BYU and a loss by New Mexico, San Diego State successfully secured its best-ever regular-season finish in the 10-year history of the MWC, as the Aztecs can end up no worse than third. A year ago, SDSU finished in a tie for fifth place with BYU, its previous best performance in the standings.
The race for the regular-season conference crown also got more interesting Wednesday, as first-place Utah fell at eighth-place UNLV, putting the Utes within a half game of the Lady Frogs and a game in front of the Aztecs.
San Diego State's focus on Saturday, however, will be on TCU, which is the only conference school the Aztecs have yet to beat this season. A victory over the Lady Frogs would give SDSU its first 20-win campaign in 12 years and would enable the Aztecs to finish the regular season with a perfect home record (14-0) for just the second time in program history.
The game will also be the final regular-season contest in Cox Arena for two Aztec seniors. Guard LaSandra Dixon (Azusa, Calif.), forward Jennifer Layton-Bailes (Sacramento, Calif.) and team manager Emily Banville will all be honored before tip-off.
The 13th all-time meeting between the two foes will feature a live audio/video call with Chris Ello, as well as live stats on goaztecs.com.
